Father with bad back?
Question:
basically a large and heavy object fell on his back and ever since then..he's been having back problems. He always has a slight hunched over look whenever he walks, he cannot sit on the floor with his legs folded (indian style)..and it just hurts for him to stretch his back.
I'm just wondering if there is a way to give him some kind of relief to that area. He's been to this place for a month or 2 years ago (i think they just tried to stretch and massage the area)..it i didn't really help.
Would acupuncture help?
Answers:
I am an expert on back problems. Not because I am a nurse, but because I have the same problem. Has he ever had an MRI? He may have herniated discs by now. If these are not checked out, they can lead to ruptured disc and that is very, very serious. I had surgery eventually. Meantime, use what I have been telling everyone. Apply heat to the area for about 10-15 min a session, followed by ice for the same amount of time. I really don't condone acupuncture especially if he has bad disc. I believe it could make it worse, that's just my personal opinion. Tell your dad I will be praying for him. I hurt just thinking about him. By the way, I still have 5 more herniated discs and It hurts. God bless your dad, and you for your concern. You must bve a wonderful son to your parents.
i would suggest that he try some yoga , swimming helps a lot as well. the worst thing that you can do is sit around and do not much.
Acupuncture will help! Also try a chiropractor. If that fails to work have him see a Dr. specifically for pain management, they many times will do a epidural block. Major results with the epidural block.
Just for now, roll a towel up and place it in the Lumbar area of the spine when sitting, driving or relaxing. A heating pad gives temporary relief
Hope this helps
My husband broke his back in 1991.Chiropractic care has gotten him standing straight and feeling good But,you have to stick with it. He only goes once a month now.
My 'Ol Man got hurt delivering booze when he was in his 30's. He tried all kinds of silly crap. (Actually, what they had him try wasn't the silly stuff.) He went to an acupuncturist since nothing else was working. Lo and behold! He not only got relief, but was able to stand up straight, and do light work, for long enough that his back is fine now. (It's 30 years after fact, and he only has trouble when he pushes himself.) I thought sticking needles in people was for voodoo, but it seems to work. I'll take my 'Ol Man's word for anything.
