To protect the inner ear workings - the cochlea, ear drum, the inner canal. For example, if a small bug flies into the ear it gets stuck in the wax.
earwax (or cerumen) protects the inside of your ear. Your earlobes direct sound waves into your inner ear canal, but they also bring dust and bugs! Earwax picks this gunk up and protects the delicate inner lining of your ear. It's so important that 2,000 special glands in your body do nothing but make earwax all day long. Earwax also has special enzymes that help kill germs. Old earwax usually just falls out of your ear in tiny flakes, so don't worry about getting it out yourself!
