HELP? Cat Scratch!??!?

Question:
Yesterday this cat came up to me when I was on the golf course, in our back yard. And it was meowing, I bent down and started petting it, when it scratched me. It scratched me on my arm, as it ran away. It didnt hiss or wasnt angry at me for petting or touching it. The cat ran because of my dog; which ran towards the cat a few seconds after it came up to me. I believe the cat was trying to hit my dog but I was in the way. I dont think it was a wild cat. It was very tame, came right up to me, and seemed very clean almost as if it had been groomed. We live on a golf course with many other houses in a big subdavision, with many cats. I cleaned up the cut; washed it with soap, put on disinfectant, and neosporin. It's healing and almost starting to scabb over, but the cut is sticking out some. It's not very big about 1 in. long or so at most. But when I push down on it it hurts, but then again it is a cut. I know rabies travels in saliva, so I dont think I have to worry. Just incase!
Thanks

Answers:
Most cat or dog scratches will stick out its normal. I do not know why probably from some bacteria. I think your OK but it should stop sticking out within 2-48 hours. The way I see it is cats lick there paws so it could have rabies on the paw but does it still need to mix with your saliva? Overall there is probably a 1% chance you have rabies.

It takes a good week on most people for a cat scratch to really start healing.

If it worsens, go to your doc, otherwise, you're doing just fine.
No worries just keep it clean watch for red lines trailing from this area.
I wouldn't worry too much, because you would probably be feeling pretty bad by now if you had rabies. I believe it IS possible to transfer rabies through scratching, but I doubt the cat had rabies. Go to your doctor if you're that scared! But try not to freak.
eww.. itchy? cat scratches itch. in australia we get tenenis shots for stuff like that. mayb pop off to your doc and see wat they say about it
you should be fine
but you should be checked for tetnis* how ever you spell it
my cuzin got cut by a rock and got it
Just a regular scratch, what you are feeling is your body's normal reaction to your skin being broken through, although if you start to feel ill see a doctor.
I think that it will be ok. Just continue to clean it. It sounds like it may be inflamed with is normal in the healing process. If you start to develop any more worse symptoms then seek a doctor's opinion, but everything sounds normal now. Like I said just keep cleaning it with disinfectant or hydrogen peroxide or something.
You won't get rabies from a cat scratch. But the scratch could be getting infected. Just keep it clean and go to the doctor if it starts looking red or angry or has pus in it.
I would try some peroxide. If it looks like it might be getting infected, get some ichthammol. You might have to ask for it at the pharmacist desk. It is also commonly known as black suave. Good Luck.
