Is it bad to have the sticky part of a plaster over a cut that's not fully healed yet?
Question:
I've run into the problem that there's no where on my arm I can cut that I can put a plaster over without the sticky part being on another cut from a few days ago. Telling me not to cut isn't going to do any good right now, I just need to know how to bandage it after.
Answers:
It will rip off the scab when u pull it off. Buy rolls of gauze and wrap it around all of them. I used to cut too. U can beat it.
Other Answers:
The sticky stuff is more likely to latch on to germs from the air and could cause an infection if it's not clean/changed daily. For cuts that are too big to be bandaged normally, gauze wrap can help to do the work.
No it's not good to put the sticky part of a plaster onto a cut. You should probably get a long dressing and bandage up your arm. depends what has been stuck to that sticky part
Ellie i am sorry you are feeling this way. Every time i read questions like that it makes me want to cry. I want you to know that i am here for you nomatter what okay? I dont like to hear that you are hurting yourself. If you are doing this for attention like one of your questions said, then i will give you all of the attention you need. I want to be here for you, but i am feeling helpless. THe best thing to put on your cuts is cool water, some neosporin, then put a bandage over it. Please atleast if you are going to do this, keep germs out of your arm. Make sure its a clean razor. I dont want you to get an infection. I am starting to give up, i have done everything i can to help you, i am constantly thinking about you, i have even told my friend about you.
Love you,
Kaylee
Ellie are you joking with us all?
I cut myself for years and i can tell you one thing if you think it's going to help it's not. people aren't going to change because you are cutting. you have to learn to live with the people in your family and love them the way they are. hurting yourself isn't going to change them or help you. I replaced my cutting with smoking. a nasty habit but it's better then cutting.
the reason i thought this was a joke is because most people that cut don't tell anyone. You'd be best to buy some actual bandages rather than using sticking plasters. Make sure you clean the cuts properly, change the dressing daily and watch out for signs of infection. If you buy a proper bandage and some gauze you can put the gauze on the cut, wrap the bandage round it a couple of times and then tape on top of the bandage so that you're not having anything sticky over old cuts.
You might get some help from this website:
www.recoveryourlife.com
It's a forum for people who self injure, there are lots of distraction techniques on it, first aid advice, and there are chat rooms you can use for support as well from people who understand what you're going through. The sticky part of a plaster is not sterile, only the pad is.
If you have a larger wound, then the best alternative is a sterile dressing pad which is held on with a bandage. You need to buy 'non-adhesive' dressings and secure with a bandage so that you dont use sticky stuff at all.
Its good that you are trying to promote healing and prevent infection.
buy the new spray on plaster- two types 1 for varruccas and 1 for cuts. and you might want to think about going to see a doctor or psyc.
