My mother is highly anemic, how can I avoid this problem myself.?

Question:
My mother was just told that she had no iron in her body and needs to get IV's to help out. She is getting them for the next two weeks. What can I do to help her out And what should I look out for to 1) avoid the possibility myself and 2) what side effects should she watch out for. Thanks for your help.

Answers:
When your hemoglobin drops that low you can die very easily. My husband was a 3 and started to expires. Sometimes a persons hemoglobin drops when thier bleeding internally and thats why dr. try to give you blood when your really anemic. Thiers a drug called procrit which is used for people that dont want to risk catching blood disorders. My husband used it and he is at a 14 now..very healthy for a man. Hopefully your mother isnt bleeding internally and as far as you go.you cant genetically pass on low iron.its just a medical problem that you can cure if caught early like.Hope everything goes well..Maybe visit a blood cancer specialist called a hemotologist.

I don't know excatly but high iron content will help. From green leafy vegetables like spinach will provide her iron. Also beetroot will help her to gain haemoglobin.

Make sure you foods high in iron. Red meats, dark leafy veggies. You can also take a multivitamin everyday. eat vegetables having iron
get blood test done periodically so that even if there is some deficiency u can be alert

I'm anemic myself and so was my mother pre-menopause. Anemia is more common in women than in men because our cycles. The best and easiest way for you to avoid this (and in helping your mother boost hers up) is just your diet. Incorporate more iron rich foods - like spinach, carrots, potatoes, lean red meat, black beans, certain whole grains. There are also multvitamins for women that have a fair source of iron as well.
Your mom could benefit from the vitamins, (Check with her doctor first) but also iron supplements as a reinforcement. You can try ferrous gluconate - which is easier on the stomach and you can get it at the pharmacy without a prescription.
