is there an easy way to put the leads on a patient for an ekg?

Question:
i know that the leads have to in specific intercostal spaces, but what if you can't feel the intercostal spaces on a "thick" person. and what do you do if you have to do an ekg on a woman with big breasts? i need to get good at the ekg for my internship as a medical assistant. please help quick. thanks.

Answers:
if i have thick person i do the following. you can usually find the correct place for lead 1 and 2 no matter what size they are. after that place number 4 under the left nipple and align number 3 diagonally between 2 and 4 on top of the breast.( 4 should be in line with the mid clavical piont. ) 5 lies in a vertical line with the outer axialler and 6 is in line with the inner armpit. if has large breast than place under the breast or not enough conductivity to get good reading.

Other Answers:
I would suggest asking someone who regularly performs ekg's what they do in those situations. Medical personnel usually share tricks of the trade.
I use external landmarks....the nipple line etc. Your instructor can show you best.
just feel for the intercostal spaces, use the nipple line as a land mark...or just go mid sternum for the two chest ones that are placed side by side
