what is a magnet hospital? does it mean they are better than non-magnets?

Question:

Answers:
i am proud to say that i currently work for a magnet hospital in phoenix,az ( banner good samaritan)

the hospital must apply after feeling that they have met the standards of having the most prestigious line of employees and healthcare practices in the world. after the application is reviewed, a team of observers ( 6 in my hospitals case) will come out to the facility and walk through various units of the hospitals interviewing staff, patients, visitors and watch how things are done. about a month after this visit the decision is made. the award lasts for a year and then the hospital can reapply.

the is the most prestigious award a hospital can receive and it's nationwide. to most of the outside world, unless you have healthcare background or knowledge-the award probably doesn't mean much to you-but once explained, most people would prefer to be treated at such a facility. this doesn't mean however, that the nation's top doctors work there-many doctors and nurses have won awards that do not work for magnet facilities. in my hospital's case-we were also awarded for having the state's best trauma center-so that attributed to our magnet status.

the magnet award basically recognizes practices, care and staff that can be considered superb and going way beyond the expectations of what a person's stay in the hospital should be like.

hope that helped : )

Other Answers:
To become a Magnet hosptial, this is an award given to an organization who can provide the best nursing and patient care available. They achieve this status by attracting (thus the magnet) the best physicians, nurses, and hospital staff and retaining the best team possible. Everyone in the organization concentrates on working together as a team to benefit the patients and their families. The hospital must apply and then have an inspection to see if they qualify and meet all of the criteria.
