microdiscectomy?
Question:
Answers:
Recovery times are typically shorter than laminectomy or fusion.
It will depend highly on the type of work you do. For the most part, prolonged sitting is one of the worst things after microdisectomy due to the increased amount of pressure in the disc while sitting. Those that do heavy manual, repetitive labor are also at risk. Those who have jobs which allow a variety of movement without heavy lifting can often return to work within 3-6 weeks and many return only part-time at that point. Those who sit for prolonged periods of time or do the heavy labor could potentially be off work for 8-10 weeks.
It is highly variable and depends on how you are responding after the procedure. Most return on a part-time basis initially and "build up" to working full-time. Your job activities need to be discussed with your surgeon in order to get a good estimate on your time off from work.
Best wishes.
