Wrong ABR Hearing Test Results?

Question:
Anyone have experience with an ABR test that reported a hearing loss and then weeks, months, years, later hearing was tested again and the person passed? Especially wondering about infants (0-6 months) that have failed the ABR and then pass an ABR later. Have you exeperienced this or do you know someone who has? I'm a concerned parent. Thanks.

Answers:
Yes you can have false positve results from ABR screening. That is why if the baby fails the screening it is recommended that follow up testing be done to confirm those results. A failure on ABR must be followed up audiologically to repeat the procedure or to pursue behavioral testing if the child is old enough.
