What should I do about this nail?

Question:
About a month ago I was running down the basement stairs when I missed the last one and fell into the ironing board and the iron fell on my finger. It turned blue and purple right away and I went to the hospital and they burnt a hole in the nail to release the pressure. Its starting to grow out but the nail is still black, I think I can see the new nail just under the nail bed, but is there anything special that I should do? should I be careful because I'm just going on with my daily business and not thinking twice about it.

Answers:
the same exact thing happened to me two years ago, when my finger got stuck in the door of my room... it also turned purple instantly and hurt like helll for a few hours.. Unfortunately there is absolutely nothing you can do about it in the meantime, you just have to keep cutting the nail as it grows gradually.. mine took about four months for the purple surface to disappear completely, but it all depends on the size of the blue surface, on it's proximity to the top of the nail, and on the speed of your nail growth... this is no big deal at all, and you are doing the right thing by ignoring it completely and going on with you daily business.. and if the sight of it bothers you, you can always hide it underneath a thick coat of non-transparent nail polish! Good Luck with your nail and don't worry about it at all!

Your finger nail is going to fall off and it may take months for your new one to grow in. If it catches on this then you need to tape it down so it doesn't get yanked off.
I know I've been there, and it hurts like hell
My husband dropped something on one of his nails and it turned black in a small area. The nail kept growing and eventually the black spot moved up and out of his nail. Don't worry about it.
