Rather poorly phrased question.
Current Guinness record for going without sleep voluntarily is about two weeks.
Note I said voluntarily. There's a medical condition known as fatal familial insomnia, in which sufferers basically forget how to sleep one day and stay awake for nine to twenty months before they die from the condition.
I've done a few stretches without sleep myself, including several three-days and one five-day. After the first day, you have the reflexes of one who is legally drunk, and consequently should not operate anything more dangerous than a dulled spoon and more critical than a light switch. By day three, the world looks strange, and by day five I started to have hardcore hallucinations. Faces had smoke trails, and lights didn't move with the things they were attached to.
As far as tips on staying awake, I don't know if that's really in the purview of your query, but I've found that you should drink tons of water, dodge alcohol and caffeine, and restrict your diet to lean protein, fruits and vegetables so your digestive system doesn't do too much hard work chunking through fats and starches.
DEPENDS ON THAT PARTICULAR PERSON'S SLEEPING HABITS AND HEALTH
WHY ARE YOU TURNING INTO AN INSOMNIAC?
the longest i've ever been awake was for 12 days :D
