Sprained ankles and twisted ankles?
Question:
Answers:
Often they are the same thing. When you sprain an ankle, you pull a muscle. Sometimes when you twist your ankle, it sprains it and other times it just strains it (makes it sore,) and if you are really lucky, you will just feel some initial pain and then it is fine. If you sprain your ankle, there will be swelling and you need to apply ice for 10 to 20 mins., several times a day. Ibuprofen also will help reduce the inflammation. Some sprains are worse than others. If you pull a ligament, you will have a long recovery and will need to wear an ankle brace or to keep the ankle wrapped.
If you are spraining your ankles often, you need to strengthen them. You can do this by going to the gym and using the calf weight machines, but doing toe raises and by going for runs on grass, sand and trails.
You should also take a look at your footwear. Are you wearing shoes with heels often? This not good for the ankles. You may need shoes with good stability and good cushioning.

sideways or twisting movement of the foot. An ankle sprain can occur during athletic events or during everyday activities. All it takes is an awkward step or an uneven surface to cause an ankle sprain--that is why sprained ankles are among the most common orthopedic injuries. Orthopedic doctors see patients for ankle sprains very often, and it is the most common foot and ankle injury. THIS IS A SPRAINED ANKLE AND THIS IS A TWISTED ANKLE is another word word for it i'll give you the definition which is............... A sprain (from the French espraindre - to wring) is an injury which occurs to ligaments caused by a sudden overstretching (for the muscle injury, see strain). The ligament is usually only stretched, but sometimes it can be snapped, slightly torn or ruptured, all of which are more serious and require longer to heal.
Sprains are graded in three degrees. Although some signs and symptoms can be used to assess the severity of a sprain, the most definitive method is with the use of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). A 1° sprain has only minor tearing of the ligament whereas a 3° sprain is characterized by complete rupture.
The typical signs and symptoms associated with a sprain are localized pain, swelling, and loss of function.
Although any joint can experience a sprain, some of the more common include the ankle, knee, and fingers. Perhaps one of the more talked about sprains is that to the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) of the knee. This is a disabling sprain common to athletes, especially female basketball, soccer, and judo players.
there the same thing and the symptoms are you cant walk on them and they hurt really bad so go to a doctor to get it checked out
same thing!
You treat them the same way - the RICE method. Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation. After 48 hours, you usually switch from ice to heat. Anti-inflammatories (Motrin, Advil, etc.) help control the swelling in the joint. If it is really painful, see a doctor to rule out something else.
