My doctor said Im anemic and have to take iron.Know of any iron suppliments that dont cause constipation?

Question:
Im not a big meat eater-I eat some chicken/fish occasionally, but generally no red meat. I mainly stick to veggie/soy products and fruit/vegetables.

I don't want to be tired, but I dont want to eat red meat, either.

Answers:
I have anemia also. I have colitis and my intake of foods with iron in them is limited. My doctor recommended Slow Fe. All iron pills can cause constipation but it's not as common with Slow Fe. Just make sure you take it with a meal (no calcium or antacids, though. These interfere with iron absorption by the body). Also make sure you have a source of vitamin C with it. This helps your body absorb iron better. There are foods besides meat that contain iron. Green leafy vegetables are a source. Check with a dietitian or pharmacist. They would be able to give you a complete list.

Other Answers:
Try some basic vitamins.

Hi,

The key is that you need whole food nutrition that is natural. There are a lot of reasons for consuming whole food nutrition instead of vitamins but the main reason is assimiliation. The problem with fractionates such as vitamins is the side effects. I would recommend you look at a site I found that has a bunch of information and products regarding this issue: www.nutritional-life.com.

Good luck and good health!

Kevin
