It's called saccations when your eyes jump. Saccations are short leaps across the words. This happens because your eyes can recognize words faster than your brain interprets them. I do the same thing (lose my place) sometimes, but it's normal. It has connections with speed reading. We studied this in one of my classes last semester.

This is necessary because the mind doesn't like to stay in one place and we have all sorts of things on our mind as well. Even 30 seconds will do. If none of those suggestions help, try talking to an eye doctor. it happens while your reading then you start thinking about something else, you still "read" the page but you won't notice because your in your own little dream world. This is normal don't worry about it.
this could be eye strain, or one of the other things people have mentioned, but if it is a serious problem, you may have a tracing problem. my sister had this, and it impaired her reading comprehension and speed. she went to a special therapist and did a bunch of special exorcises that fixed the problem.
