My ex-husband provided them for our son when he was a teenager. His motives were not meant as an encouragement for our son to go out there and have sex at will, but I actually think it was realistic and practical because the reality is that kids will have sex and since we know they will, they should be encouraged to have protection handy and to use it.

Well, mine didn't do it for me when I was growing up... but that was during a much different time. Yes, you could get a girl pregnant if you weren't careful, but nowadays there's the added risk that you can die if you're not careful.
My guess is your Dad would rather provide you with some precaution and be certain of it rather than leaving it to chance that you'd figure it out. That's a gamble many people shouldn't be taking.
My sons are 3 and 6, but when it is apparent that they are thinking of becoming sexually active, I will buy them condoms. I think it is the mark of a very loving and caring father to be so aware of the world his sons live in and anticipating their needs. My husband and I hope to do the same.

I think it is completely normal and responsible of your father. They know they can tell you about all the dangers and precautions, but most will do it anyway. The way I see it better safe and realizing the truth than sorry and in denial.

This doesn't mean he expects you to use them. He's just trying to make sure that if you do have sex, you prevent pregnancy and disease.
it should be... AIDS is a real and rising epidemic. i buy them for my 16 year old brother... and my aunt gives them to my 18 year old cousin. my parents made sure that we had a huge bowl of condoms when my oldest brother and i were in high school...
My dad hasn't given me any, and I don't think he will. He wouldn't need to anyway cause I wasn't planning on having sex until marrige.

yeah it happens a lot , i guess parents want you not to die. is that wrong? they are not urging you to have sex , they are just giving you a chance not to have children that young, or they are saving your life simply ... well look at the bright side , at least you don't have to buy them.

I am a mom and I have bought condoms for my son. I want him to know that if his temptation gets the best of him, he needs to practice safe sex. I think you should be proud of your dad for caring so much that he wishes to save you from STD's or unwanted pregnancies.
