Could this pain be a symptom of a serious problem?

Question:
I've been experiencing mild abdominal pain on my right side directly below my rib cage on and off for 7 years. It used to last for about an hour and now it can last for days. It is very localized and specific to one spot. Sometimes it hurts pretty bad, and other times its just mild.

Answers:
For this to be going on for so long tell me it more than likely isn't something thats acute.(like your appendix).Do you notice it after you eat specific foods?..does it sometimes radiate to your shoulder?..these are symptons of a cholecystitis(a gallbladder attack)..this occurs when a person has gallstones ..perhaps it is your gall bladder.make an appointment to see a general surgeon..or a gastroenterologist.they would order a cat scan or an abdominal ultrasound .some blood work like a CBC ,an amylase and lipase test and a complete chemistry to include a liver functions as well to try and diagnose your problem..a general doctor could do the same but then would only refer you to a specialist(which would be a surgeon or gastroenterologist)
Good luck!

Other Answers:
Maybe its gallstones, go get it checked out ASAP.

Could be your gull bladder. Certain foods, and stress, will make it flare up. I AM NOT A DOCTOR NOR ANY OTHER SORT OF TRAINED MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL. Having said that, your symptoms sound like what I experienced when I had gall bladder problems. Go to your primary care medical provider and even suggest that they might want to look at your gall bladder. My symptoms started when I was 12; very unusual!
If you have had a weight loss recently, it makes hte diagnosis evenm ore likely. GOOD LUCK!

You really really really need to go to the Dr and tell them about this. A pain is always a sign of something especially when it comes back over and over in the same spot. Don't put your health care off any longer.
