My 2 yr old son got his finger in the door when I was shutting it.?

Question:
The nail is coming off. I trimmed it back a little bit so it don't get stuck on something and rip off. I've put medicine and a bandage on it. He won't leave the bandage on though. Will his nail grow back?

Answers:
Probably. I smashed my finger once and the nail eventually fell off, grew back thick, and then eventually grew in normally.

Other Answers:
His nail will grow back (mine did!) as long as the nail bed was not damaged (that's at the base of the nail, near the cuticle).
yes it will
He has only torn the nail part. The nail bed by the way is the space under the nail, the part at the cuticle where the nail originates is actually called the root. As long as the root was not permanently damaged the nail will return, might be awhile so be patient. If the bandage bothers him take it off as long a the loose nail is trimmed and it won't catch it on things.
Yes, the nail will grow back. You did the right thing by cleaning and applying a bandage. If this does not stay on you may get a finger guard at your local pharmacy to put on the finger then bandage around it. I would also bring him to get an x-ray as the finger may be fractured. Good luck.
Yes but it will take some time. Be patient. Keep it trimmed and clean.

If its bleeding, you can also pt a little super glue on it, to keep him from ripping any scab open. Be sure it comes from an unopened tube, and to sterilize the finger first.
yea it will grow back
