When relocating to another city, how does one choose a new doctor or dentist?
Question:
Answers:
In most bigger cities, there is a service called a "Physician's Referral Service".they will recommend doctors, will know who's accepting new patients, if they take certain types of insurance and will sometimes give an opinion if you ask. Most hospitals have their own service, listing doctors that practice there. It's in the Yellow Pages under "Physician Referral". That's how I located a new, primary care physician that wasn't totally overwhelmed by patients.

phone book
Trust friends who have used that professional. I moved 750 miles away several years back and I asked friends and coworkers. They directed me and I'm extremely happy with the outcome! We have asked our new neighbors for their recommendations. Also your new co-workers.
Beats taking a chance on the yellow pages.
Ask people..ask them how they like their doctor or dentist. Call human services they will be able to give you doctors name and look in phone books plus on line for doctors sign permission slips with your new doctor and they will get information from old doctors.
Talk to your new neighbors (hopefully one is a nurse or other health care worker); coworkers, etc. You can also call up local hospitals and find out who is board certified, etc. Or ask your current docs if they know of anyone in the area. If you happen to work in a hospital, you can actually meet and see how the docs interact with their patients.
Ask co workers, neighbors or friends. Your present Dr. may be able to refer someone.
First if you have an insursance company you have to call them, they will let you know which doctor's in your area are accepting new patience and accept your insurance. Then maybe the local hospital will have a doctor's refferal service and sometimes the person answering the phone can give you their personal opinion. Maybe go to a medical arts building (usually a area of doctor's)affiliated with the hospital and speak to some people in the waitng area they probably won't mind talking about some doctor's being positive or negative, but most of this talk will be positive unless you ask about some negative. The elderly are more likely to be more open about everything. I recently relocated and found that while waiting for a doctor's appointment people will talk. Good Luck
