What do I do if I believe I have acid reflux?

Question:
Do I really need to go to the doctor? I'm not big on going to the doctor, but if you guys suggest it, I will go. Just wondering if there is anything else I can do.

Answers:
Avoid spicy foods, alcohol. caffiene and nicotine. Try not to have any food for 2 hours before you go to sleep.sleep propped on 2 pillows.and buy over the counter zantac or pepcid.but if the problem persists go see a doctor as continued GERD(gastro esophageal reflux disease) can lead errosion of the esophagus and Barretts esophagitis a pre esophageal cancerous condition.

Other Answers:
Drink milk,that helps.

Eat Rolaids or Tums. Don't eat too late into the night. see a gastroenterologist and/or an otolaryngologist for an accurate diagnosis and treatment. There are other problems that might cause similar symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to get it professionally evaluated. Be as honest and detailed as possible about your symptoms and medical/health history.

Take Pepcid. It worked really well for me. I went to the gasteroenterologist and he stuck tubes and **** down my throast and then prescribed pepcid.
DOn't drink coffee, smoke cigaretes, or drink carbonatated beverages, watch alcohol intake. ALl that will help your acid reflux. I have had a terrible tiime with it.

My hubby has reflux. Yes, sorry to say but off to the Doc's you must go. Unless you have research this condition, after awhile of not being treated, ulcers can begin in your throat area where the bile lays during Reflux. If this continues, it will begin to eat away at the lining. This is the best way I can describe it. You need to go get a perscription that will stop this condition. My husband is doing wonderfully now, he can even eat pepperoni. Good luck, and make that appointment. Yes, go to the doctor, if not the acid will damage your esophagous

Ok First Of I Do Have It And It's Lousy Yes But Not That Bad Of A Thing. Try An Over The Counter Medicine Called Prilosec OTC Try The 14 Day Package. If After Using It For A Few Days You Feel Better Then Yes You Probably Have Acid Reflux. Even If You Do Or Don't Feel Better Still Make An Appointment To Be Checked Out.

Dear Jammiemead,
You've certainly brought your medical concerns to the right place! The Y!A community members are fully aware of and do appreciate the intimate conditions involving your prognosis. Most recognized doctors in the field of medicine would employ a holistic approach to your ailment.
Jammiemead, please begin your day with a well balanced breakfast to include an ample portion of fruits and grains. After your morning routines are finished, enjoy a brisk walk around the block. If you happen to meet any stray dogs along the way, it would be a good idea to antagonize the creatures in order to add some vigor to your workout.
Now Jammiemead, the remaining portions of your day should be filled with interesting activities and new studies to keep your mind active and in balance, complimentary to what you have done with the physical side of yourself.
After loitering around at the public library all afternoon with a bunch of smelly hobos, you can appreciate a warm bath and time to be good to yourself. Begin to collect an archive of various music genres that you can resolve one day to enjoy after you get the rest of your chores done.
Jammiemead, if after following my advice, simply take two aspirin and forget we ever had this little discussion.
Thank you, Jammiemead. Have a great day!
Dr.Caleb

You really should go to the doctor, it could be something more serious. ok dude, everyone is going to give you the same old answers.except me, ok here is what you do..on the side of your bed that you put your head, you need to raise it up a bit by putting maybe small blocks of wood.something, but you want to make sure you have a small decline starting from your head to your feet, that way at night your acid will be taken care of by the forces of gravity..remember raise your bed a little bit and..yes, the usual.rolaids or tums
