Anyone with ADD?

Question:
Do you take med's? How do you think they help?
Do you have any negative side effects?

Answers:
I do! I take Adderall XR, and it works great, but when it leaves my system I get cranky and edgy. When I don't take it, I drink way too many caffeinated drinks, and they're worse! They give me restless legs at night. But when I take it, I get everything done, like I should.

My kids are both on Strattera, which is a non-stimulent med. It works okay, but stimulents work so much better! But on stimulents they hardly eat at all. Wish it had that effect on me.

I tried the essential fatty acids (fish oil tablets) and they did nothing. They also didn't work on my son when he was off meds.

Yes, Adderall (XR) - It allows you to concentrate better, it has a wealth of negative side effects.
Yes, I have ADD. I am currently unmedicated because I haven't found the most effective one for me yet. They all have some side effects . . . for me the worst is migraines.

ADDENDUM: I am unsure where the idea of Fish Oil/Flax Seed Oil as the sole treatment of ADD has started. The entire use of the supplement comes from a study at John Hopkins for schizophrenic and bipolar patients. Patients that never achieved control on their regular medications obtained control on very high doses (If I remember correctly it was around 10 pills per day.) Those who were under control ended up having their medication amounts lowered.

I do take Fish Oil am and Flax Seed Oil pm. (I have reflux so Fish Oil and sleep do not mix.) If there was really a good doctor in my area covered by my insurance, then I would add a medication to the regime. The most positive aspect of this routine is the fact that although my cholesterol has finally hit 200, my HDLs are over 100.
i have add and i would never take drugs for it it would just make me dependant on them and not learn how to control my add
Yes...I am diagnosed with ADD..and you know...no one seems to understand me or how I...Oh look...there's a chicken!!!!
I don't have ADD, but I have read a bit. I think it is related to hypoglycemia, based on my reading. For basic information on hypoglycemia, check out www.hufa.org. For basic information on hyperinsulinemia, check out www.mayoclinic.com and search for hyperinsulinemia.
i dont take them anymore, yes they used to help me alot, but i didnt felt good, not myself, sometimes i couldnt sleep!!
my brother took rideline for more than ten years and now he is only 5 feet tall and cant keep the weight on.

he doesnt look like anyone in our family

we tease him all the time " you were adopted"
my son does - he takes strattera
he says that there is no difference in him when he takes it but everyone else notices a huge difference

he does have the side effects of insomnia and decrease appetite
Yes they have many side effects. Go to your local health food store and inquire about Omega 3-6-9. Fatty fishes help correct the problem...mackerel, sardines, tuna. Diet is a huge factor contributing to ADD. Omega 3-6-9 is a blend of all the EFA's the body requires but is deficient in, thus the issue of ADD
cyanide! it works. the negative side effect is - you die.
My son has ADD. He has taken many stimulants in the past but he always gets tics from them. Eye blinking and stuff like that.
He needs them and Concerta was the only thing he could take.
There are a lot of stimulants out there now. He also always loses weight when he's on them.
YA I gots A DOOZER D*ICK

yee haww
I don't have ADD, but I have a cousin who does. Based on how her life is, the side effects are effected by how you grow up, what kind of neighborhood you're in, etc.
I have been called ADD girl, though, since I didn't pay attention. XD Anyways...good luck with it.
I took Ritalin for my ADD from between wen i was 10 and 16 the Ritalin really helped me calm down and concentrate I'm 22 now and i can look back and really see a difference in my behavior, also the only side effects i had on the Ritalin was they would keep me awake.

hope this helps, Beaver
Adderol is effective for me. I think the time release works better than the fast acting because you don't give yourself the option of sluffin off for the second half of the day. A daily planner is essential for helping to keep your thoughts and whole life more on course with a lot less effort. I ran out of my medicine a few times and didn't suffer any withdrawl symptoms, you can take it and see if it works you won't become addicted in a week. Make sure you consult with a med management doctor to see what the best option is for you and he will also make sure you don't have any conflicting drugs in your system.
Yes, I take Concerta and it helps me allot by keeping me focused. The worst side effects are lack of appetite and if I take it to late it keeps me up since it is a stimulant, but the good effects out weigh the bad ones I have been taking meds since I was in first grade (I am 29 now)
I HAVE A 7 YR OLD TAKING RITALIN AND A 13 YR OLD TAKING CONCERTA IN MORNING AND RITALIN IN AFTERNOON. I FEEL AS IF NO ONE UNDERSTANDS MY OLDER CHILD. TALKS EXCESSIVE, FIDGETS, STARES OUT AT PEOPLE, HARD TO MAKE FRIENDS, NO ONE SEEMS TO HER HER CHANCES AT ACTIVITIES THAT YOU HAVE TO TRY OUT FOR. VERY DEPRESSING AS A PARENT. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!
my husband has add ,he takes strattera and it helps him greatly
he stays focused better,he thinks before he just blurts stuff out lol
it really helps a lot and they only side affect he says he has (this is going to sound strange )but its what he complains of he says he has trouble urinating it takes him a long time and if he skips the meds he has no problem but thats the only side affect he has it works great! if you have any more questions just email me
