Is laying on your stomach bad for your back?

Question:
I'm being seen by a chiropractor and have been told to avoid laying on my stomach at all, which is hard, i'm used to do doing a lot on my stomach (reading, eating, using the computer, etc). I stopped laying on my stomach completely, even at night, and my back pain has pretty much gone away. I can't find any information about laying on your stomach. Does anyone know why it is bad, or if it really even is that bad?

Answers:
Your spine is more at rest when it is touching the ground, which is only possible if you lie flat on your back. If you are experienceing back pain because of your spine, laying on your back will help it heal more quickly. It is not bad if you are not having problems, but if you are having problems, laying down without supporting your spine can make them much worse.
I was told by my orthopedic surgeon that the worst thing for the back was laying on your stomach
It causes the vertebra's to get out of alignment
