How long does it take for a ruptured eardrum to heal?

Question:
my 6 month old grandbaby rolled out of bed onto a rattail comb that was sticking up in his mother's purse. The comb punctured the side of his head near his ear. We were told that the puncture injured the nerve to his eardrum, but also the eardrum itself was ruptured.

Answers:
very long?

A ruptured/preforated eardrum can take many months to totally heal, it could take a year. His hearing is also going to be affected until it is healed,if talking to him you'll have to speak louder, listening to the tv or music will have to be louder for him too....poor baby..
Did your grandson have surgery for this? My brother had a ruptured ear drum when he was 11 years old, and had to have surgery with it. I remember that my mom kept it very clean for a couple of weeks and had to use ear drops for a while, and of course he had stitches and things behind his ear that had to be cleaned and taken care of also. And there was minimal hearing damage.
Since your question isn't too specific I'm not sure what you are asking, but I would guess that he needs lots of special care for a week or two and to keep your eye on the ear trouble. My brother had always been prone to ear infections, and still is since that happened!
