what would be the osha standard for being poked with a needle?

Question:
if a nurse was working with a needle

Answers:
OSHA's blood borne pathogen standard is one of the strictest and most detailed due to the seriousness of needlesticks and hazards prevented by sharps in the healthcare industry.

In involves training, a written exposure control plan and hepatitis B vaccination, and possibly medical surveillance.

I've include the link to the bloodborne pathogen standard on osha.gov

Other Answers:
I think that osha should make sure that you are tested for all harmful pathogens and make sure the employer pays for this. That's just my pipe dream because you'll never see that happen but they should have guidelines in place to ensure the likelyhood of this happening is as low as possible. They should also make counseling available while you wait for the test results.I'm sorry but I misread your question.Thought you asked should but I'll leave this response.I read your question again and realized my mistake and came back
The nurse would be put on drugs that help fight HIV and tested to see if they were infected. The nurse would also have to go to a class about the proper ways of handling needles.
