If you really haven't smoked for 4 months, then the craving is not for nicotine but for something that you did associated with smoking. Try to identify what it is that you are missing doing with your hands, mouth, mind that you used to associate with smoking.

It could be something as weird as "My father smoked, so I feel I should!" or as mundane as "I always had a cigarette when I drank coffee".

Once you have identified that (or there may well be more than one thing), you can begin to deal with it.

Yes - I'm still craving an occassional cigarette 14 YEARS after quitting! The trick is, just don't give in to those rapacious jerks at the tobacco companies. They will sell you cancer and emphysema and try to take your soul.

If you're fighting the craving, I recommend mints, lemon drops, or beef jerkey. If that doesn't work, brush your teeth and get outside for some physical activity.

This is normal. I quit smoking almost a year ago and every now and then I will get a craving, especially in stressful situations!
I am sometimes and I quit 16 months ago!
It never actually goes away, something will always trigger the cravings off, I've stopped for a year once but back on again.
i quit over four years ago and every once in a while i still get cravings. talk to your doc, maybe there is something out there that can help you. best of luck and congrats!

Do something else instead. Get a twirly ring. carry around mints and when you crave, eat a mint. be like mmmmm.... minty cigarette! maybe your brain is just searching for an addiction. Breath mints aren't a bad addiction.

i still have the odd craving 20 months after quitting! Stick with it and not smoking becomes a way of life!!!
apparently u will feel this yearning for ever but if u want health its a cheep price to pay be strong i couldn't do it
each craving is a sign that your body is healing it self after years of abuse.

Take a deep breath and hold it and let go with a big sigh and it will just go. It neve rlasts more than 30 second. 2-3 deep breaths shuld see you right.

Nicotine is one of the most addictive subtances out there. My dad tried for years to stop, eventually succumbing to emphysema. I'm glad you quit. It will take a while for the nicotine to work out of your system. A good support group, an awareness of your triggers, new behavior patterns will help. Also, drink a lot of water as it will help flush the toxins out. Keep up the good work.
i just quit today i found this website quit net it showed me alot of ways to shake the cravings good luck wish me luck
I still crave one ocassionally, after quitting 4 yrs ago. Usually they last only seconds. If not go outside and take some deep breaths of fresh air
they will soon pass.
And after 4 months of not smoking, you have halved your chances of a heart attack,
keep up the good work, you know it makes sense!!
