Ive got a simillar problem to Yours! I have to bulged disc's #3 and #5 in my lower lumbar, and let me tell you there is no quike fix. I got hurt at work last Jannuary 2006 and after 7 epidurals I am now slated for a full blown back surgury! I feel for you! I have chronic back pain, and have run the gauntlet looking for relief, I've tried, Perscription drugs, Loratab 10's 5 a day!(Same as Vicoden but no acetemetphen/Tylenol) Alchohol (Makes it worse (The pain). I most recently am using pot! I dont smoke it, but rather leach out the THC into butter and use it as a spread for toast or abit in my morning oatmeal whatever, And I by God Works. But I am going in for surgury on the 27th of this month. And at this point, Though I have heard all types of horror stories about back surgury, I welcome the promise of relief. Good luck to you!And hang in there
Bulging disk or ruptured.
Have you had physical therapy for your condition? Are you doing any back exercises such as extension exercises? This condition is usually the result of a disc bulge or disc herniation at a specific disc level. Likely in your case, it is L4, L5, or S1. The doc may have told you specifically. You need to do exercises to help your lower back recover from this injury.
It sounds like your sciatic nerve is impinged. I actually had to have surgery on the disk between my L4 and L5 vertebrae which had ruptured. Did you see an orthopedic or a neurologist? I saw a neurologist.
Before doing any kind of physical therapy make sure that you have an MRI done by a neurologist. You don't want to continue to injure yourself or make it worse by exercising.
I've had 5 back surgeries due to ruptured discs. It sound like that is your problem. The MRI was a good idea. You tried conservative care (epidurals). The next step should be a visit to an orthopedic surgeon. Believe it or not, there have been some serious advances in this field lately. They are even able to replace the disc in some cases. I can honestly say that I do not regret a single surgery. I too had radiculopathy(pain that extends down the leg). The surgeries corrected that.
things dont "return" back to normal with a herniated disc.
It is a mechanical problem. You will have to deal with it and adapt over it.
