MCV shows size of the red blood cells. HCT indicates volumes of space occupied by the red blood cells. These high levels could indicate a variety of illness. Kidney disease or tumors, pulmonary disease, even dehydration. Increased Hct values occur in Erythrocytosis, Polycythemia vera, and shock. So many things can interfere with results. People who live in high alt. have higher levels. If the mcv >100fL or um3 then its macrocytic. B12 deficiency. Can be caused by strict vegetarian diet, intestinal parasites, a variety of gastric problems, pancreatic disease and pregnancy. Normal Immunoreactive values for insulin are 0-35uIU/mL.
I think its great that you are seeking information. I am not a Dr, I am a nurse. It can be frustrating having an illness and not having a name to put to it. I would encourage people to be informed health care consumers and not take a back seat and let the Dr decide whats best for you when it come to therapy or treatment. Yes, they have a great deal of medical knowledge but they spend 15 minutes with you, give you a prescription for your symptoms, and thats it. Remember they are on your dollar. If you are prepared for an appt, know what you want to address, what questions you want answered, how to follow up, how to manage condition, etc then you are better able to work in partnership with your Dr. If you don't compile a list of ALL symptoms you have, the Dr has a limited amount of information to make a decision on. They need the big picture and if you are informed then better able you are to give them that.

This is why lab reports are given to doctors and not patients.
Lab results must be interpreted by a clinician looking at the big picture - a person's history, physical condition, medications, symptoms, etc.
A very high HCT (hematocrit) could indicate polycythemia vera, or dehydration. These are two very different things, with different treatments. There is also the concept of "normal variant", meaning that a number may be outside of the normal range for most people, but perfectly normal for you.
Do you live at a high altitude? You might need more red blood cells to survive at a higher altitude.
If you are concerned, ask your doctor. If you don't understand what you are being told, find a doctor who can explain it to you.
Good luck.
