Deviated Septum?

Question:
Hi,

I played college basketball at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock....I graduated in 2001, and played overseas in England and in Ireland until 2004. After graduating college, I had work done on my nose.....It had been banged up pretty good from years of basketball. I thought my career was over, but got a call and went overseas.....Only to have my nose busted twice more.

It looks a little crooked, my nostrils are not the same size, it's just deformed looking. I am considering going to an ENT, because I cannot afford a plastic surgeon.

My question is, will an ENT (ear, nose and throat doctor) be able to improve the outside appearance of my nose, as well as the inside? If the fix the deviated septum will that automatically improve the appearance of my nose??

Any help will be greatly appreciated......

Answers:
A fix to the deviated septum MIGHT improve the appearance
of your nose if the devition is actually visible from the outside.

Most aren't, but again, most people don't bust their nose as
many times as you do.

However, unless the septum is SO deviated that it is actually
stretching the nostrils (yikes!), it isn't going to have any effect
on their apparent size. Now, your ENT might be able to help
there without going to plastic surgery, but it won't be by
straightening the septum.

Be prepared for your ENT to look unhappy and suggest
plastic surgery. You may want to re-investigate if anybody's
insurance might cover this. I would certainly consider going
back to your Universities if nothing else.

Good luck!

I believe an ENT would be able to help, but your best bet would be to schedule an appointment with one and tell him/her about your concerns. I had an ENT repair a deviated septum on me a few years ago. But I didn't have problems with the outside of my nose. Good luck.

All right you HOG!!!! An ENT might be able to change the appearance of your nose, but only the damage is VISIBLE. I would expect and plan for a trip to a plastic surgeon to completely correct the visible deficits.

Good luck and shop around, some procedures are coming down in price due to advances in technology.
