Tylenol Cold question?

Question:
I took a Tylenol Cold and it made me super light headed. I thought I could sleep it off during lunch but that didn't happen. It says non-drowsy but its not that I'm drowsy..just very light headed..it is an unsettling feeling. Anyone have any suggestions on what I should do or if this has happened to you?

Answers:
The lightheadedness is a known side effect of one of the components in Tylenol Cold - the pseudoephedrine. It is a decongestant, which acts to clear the sinuses. Some people are more susceptible to the lightheaded feeling than others, and it can be worse if you have not eaten lately. The previous poster is correct in that it will wear off in 6 hours, but is entirely incorrect in saying that caffeine would help in any way. In fact, caffeine should not be taken with pseudoephedrine, due to an additive excitatory potential (meaning that it could cause you to have the shakes and not be able to get to sleep for a few hours). I hope this helps and you feel better soon!
There are a number of 'non-drowsy' decongestants that make me very sleepy.
The problem is that different people have different reactions to medications.

The light headed feeling will wear off in about 6 hours. If you are not averse to caffeine, having some coffee of other caffeinated beverage may help you.
