1)Antidepressants are wonderfull! People who would either commit sucide or spend their whole life in insane asylems now have long, wonderful, productive lives!
2)I have been on Zoloft, Prozac, Wellbutrin and Wellbutrin SR due to a genetic disorder on my fathers side of the family
3)I have tried 4 4)Wellbutrin SR worked the best for me.
My little brother is becoming an alcoholic, my sister is on 3 or 4 different kinds at the same time (Yes, she IS messed up, thanks for asking) but she's working and leading an OK life. My biological mother is on a maintence doseage of 15 Mgs of Prozac- and she was the first person to even try it, some 20 years ago.
I have been taking them for years for Bipolar II.
I am currently on Effexor xr, Lezapro, and Gabapentin.
Side affects are minor, Some drowziness at night when I take Gabapentin.
I have been on many antidepressents over the years. They work for a while then their effectiveness wains.
I was on prozac first. It worked but the side affects amped me up tremendously. I then went to pazil with depakote. Lasted well for a few years then the depression came back. Went on celexa and the drug worked great for about a year then gradually had to raise it until It stopped working. I then went on Effexor xr and then later depakote was removed. I was fine for about 2 years then started cycling high and low. Was hospitalized for depression and added Lexapro and Gabapentin. I have been on this combination now for about 4 months. Am doing much better.
My advice is to be careful with them.
One - if you start to have racing thoughts or losing alot of weight then be aware you may be bipolar and tell your doctor immediately so he can adjust your meds. I am bipolar and do very well on lithium and a little seroquel. What I just described actually happened to me, no one knew I was bipolar until I started taking antidepressents.
Two - if you're geniunely depressed, as your mood begins to lift, there will come a time where you will have more energy, which is when alot of people commit suicide (because they have the energy to go through with it). It goes without saying that you tell your doctor immediately if you start thinking about suicide.
Three, stay in touch with your doctor, call frequently if you have any problems. They're used to that, psych med doses normally have to be adjusted to get the best effect.
I used to take Zoloft. I loved it. All antidepressants have side affects-all have sexual side affects-even Wellbutrin. You have to really take a long time to wean yourself off when it is time.
REZA:I have been thru the mill since I was an adult, prozac is still good but insomnia, and drymouth. Some of the new ones are quite diff, and they take months to work,if they work for You at all. They are no fun,not for pharm recreation, bad trip.Be more specific, what condition do you need them for,and do you take drugs or meds that may react badly, like methadone, valium, etc.Contact me to find out ,or ask the dr./eddie/67
