What's the best/cheapest way to buy new prescription glasses (in the States)?

I need to buy progressive (smooth trifocals) lenses and frames and have no insurance or other vision coverage. I've looked into C*stco, Am*erica's B*st, Lenscr*fters and WalM*rt so far.

I'm looking for cheap deals, offers, coupons and/or people's experiences with particular sellers of prescription lenses and frames. Thanks for your help.

Answers:
I'm an optician and I know that Costco, Walmart (or any other wholesale place) are quick fixes to finding any type of cheap lenses-- but places like target optical and sears optical usually have some type of sale going on and the prices that these businesses will give you are packaged prices.

Now while you can get a good deal w/ the packages but the key is asking for the actual prices of each lens w/o any ad-ons-- tell them that you only want the price of the progressive lens by itself, usually you can get up to half off of this price and then half off of the frames also.

Do not go to lenscrafters--they are as expensive as private doctors- and carry the same lens manufacturer!!

Happy shopping!
