Why does the navel or belly button smell oddly?

Question:

I was wondering why does my navel (and it seems that those of all the individuals arround me) have a smelly odor, no matter how much we wash it.at the end of the day, it is always smelly. Can sombody tell me why the navel tends to have a smelly oddor?

because the persperation builds up there and because it is a relativly closed space the bacteria builds up there and it takes longer for it to evaporate, lol try using your under arm deorderant there if it bothers you. to reduce the smell of arm pits i know for men if you keep the under arm hair short it reduces the smell because the bacteria has no where to build up or cling too.

i wish i could tell you because i've nnever experienced any funny odor from that are from myself or the others around me but..it could be because its above the the intestines where food and etc pass through..also kind of close to the bowels so maybe that could be it not too sure but hope that was helpful

I believe its a combination of sweat, bacteria, and lint. After a period of time the bacteria beings its work, and volia ! Odor !

Think about the belly button.. It's hard to clean and no matter how much you may splash water and soap on it, your not going to reach every single crevice. But why would you be sticking your nose close enough to smell it. If you can smell it without placing your nose down there, then maybe it is a hygene problem. Otherwise contact a doctor.

How do you smell it? Do you stick your finger in it and smell it? What does it smell like?

We (my sister and I) think that you could just be smelling your own crotch.LOL.

Seriously, if you washed it properly it shouldn't smell!

Use an essential oil spray.
