how much sleep does a person really need to stay sharp and healthy??

Question:

Answers:
It really varies for every person. Some people need the often recommended 8 hours a night to feel their best. Other people, only need around 4 or 5, and still some say 9-10. I've ready somewhere that about 7 is the average. They say when you 'naturally' wake up and feel refreshed, you know you have gotten enough sleep. It also helps to try and go to sleep and get up at the same time every day to get your body regulated. For me personally, I can function pretty well on 6.5-7 a night. although I do like to go for 8-9 hours sometimes :)

Tried and tested
It is recommended that we need 8 hours sleep daily to stay happy and healthy.
at least 8-9 but the more the better as the longer you sleep the more correctly your body functions
You need 8 hours of sleep at night. You brain gets more rest in darkness (so my mom said) - i think it's because if you sleep in the light, your eyes will still be receiving light cuz the skin on our eyelids is the thinnest skin on our bodies, so the eyes will still be sending signals for the brain to interpret.

Also, i read somewhere that teenagers need 9 hours of sleep.
The whole "eight hours a day" thing doens't apply nowdays.

Those scientist-types now say it's closer to six hours. Personally i manage with three or four.
At least 8 - don't let anyone kid you if you're serious about the
healthy part.
I have gone through a lot of sleep problems in my life. Now, I've got it down and I sleep well.

Saying you need 8 hours of sleep, is like saying you need to be in bed for X number of hours. You need certain kinds of sleep for certain kinds of health issues.

First, you body needs the deep, level 4 sleep, so that you can release human Growth Factor (hGH) - which is what makes you able to grow when you're young, and what keeps your body healthy when you're older. When you're young and your body is growing, you need more of this kind of sleep because you need more hGH, especially during growth spurts (which is why children will go through periods when they seem to sleep longer).

You also need dream sleep - if you don't get it, your body will actually take microseconds to put you in a sleep and dream. It helps you connect with your subconscious, keeps your mind sharp.

If you can get that in 8 hours great. If you can in 6 hours great. You can usually feel for yourself how your reactions are. Many times, the older we get, the harder it is to get in a good, deep sleep. So the number of hours doesn't matter, you still won't feel good if you don't get into a deep sleep.

Long answer, but I've spent a lot of time looking into this. And it's one of the few things in life that I seem to have made better for me.
