Hurting Ankle?
Question:
Is this type of injury common? About how long do you think until my ankle be feeling better? AND: More importantly, should I go to the doctors perhasp?
Answers:
Being a nurse, I've seen quite a lot of strains and sprains. You haven't described what you ankle looks like, whether there is bruising, swelling, or deformity; only that it hurts. You haven't said whether you have used ice, heat, analgesics, etc. I would suggest you get yourself over to a doc immediately; there have been cases where a "strained/sprained" ankle also ended up being a hairline fracture. If so and you injure the ankle further, it could become a more definite break with more definite complications. Seek medical attention at once!!
Other Answers:
If it still hurts after 24hrs, see a doc, aye. otherwise it could merely be a deep bruise.
You should see a doctor on this. If there is swelling and it still hurts after applying a ice pack on it , you could of sprained it as well.
it might take a few days to heal. until then, stay off your feet. if it doesnt stop hurting within a week or gets a lot worse, go to the doctor.
It might be better to find out exactly what is wrong..you might have a hairline fracture. Probably just a sprain, but it's better safe than sorry.
You either sprained it or broke it. If it isn't better by the next day, you should see a dr.
You may have a broken bone in your ankle, I have had this at the pain is really severe. You should get it X-rayed.
RICE
Rest, Ice, Compress, Elevate- first 24 hours.
Heat should only be used after that- you may have sprained or even broken your ankle. Either one will take time to heal and stop being painful, see a doctor, as you need to rule out a fractured bone.
I onces very nearly completely tore a ligament in my ankle by twisting and then running around on it (playing rugby!). It swelled up so much that I could only wear sandals (thankfully it was May!) and couldn't walk or dive (cycling was my only option!). I was advised by an instructor at my Gym to go and see the doctor who in turn advised me to go and see a Physiotherapist.
If I was you I would go and see the doctor, thats what they are there for after all! By going now and getting the right treatment now you can prevent problems furhter down the line.
I havent read the other answers ,I dont need to.ice cold water in one bucket and hot water,as hot as tou can only hotter.plunge your foot in the freezing water till you cant handle it, take it out and put it straight into the hot water.after a few seconds you will feel the heat coming on hold on till you cant handle it anymore then plunge back into the cold ,continue till you can feel the movement come back.when i do my ankle i do this straight away and it always works.
