Sprained ankle! Find out more clicks on this PLEASE! Its an emergency?

Question:
well, 10 weeks ago, coming up 11 I sprained my ankle at netball and ever since I have been playing netball but it really hurts and you know how the swelling supposed to have gone after one week, well my ankle is still as swollen as it was when I did it, my mum said that its not because I have been playing netball on it (she is a nurse) so she should know. and I went to the doctors and they said that was nothing wrong with it and I doubt it, this was 5 weeks ago, what can I do to stop the swelling its really bugging me so yeah, and my netball coach who is the same age as me has been pressuring me to stop playing till its better, but then we wont have enough people on our team to play.. and I have been wearing an ankle brace, since I did it and it hasn't helped and it is like the best one on the market, so you think I should stop playing or go back to the doctors and stuff like that because, right now I am really confused. Help me!! i play 2 times a week and train twice a week! so ya!!

Answers:
I think you should stop playing. It will only aggravate the situation. Your mom may be a nurse, but how much does she know about sports related injuries? But aside from that, have you tried putting an ice-pack or cold compress on it while you're resting and elevating it? I have had two sprained ankles and one torn ligament which totally put me off sports for at least a week(torn ligament). Have you had it x-rayed? Doctors say there's nothing wrong? They may be right or maybe wrong, but I would suggest that you just try putting ice on it and elevating it, that should help the swelling go down. If you can't avoid not playing and don't really want to let the team down, then maybe you could play a different position that doesn't need you to do too much. I don't know what net ball is, so I don't know if it is possible for you to play a position that doesn't put too much strain on your injury. Well, that's all I can say, good luck, I hope someone else can help you if I haven't.

You should probably go to the doctor, it might be broken and you dont even know it, thats what happened to me. I was walking on it and everything and I went to the doctor and they told me that my ankle was broken (the growth plate)
Try icing it, or there may be a medication for it. I really dont know what could still be wrong with it though, by now it should be healed. But it may be possible that there is either permanent or temporary damage in your ankle, that is affected by what you do in netball.
this may sound strange but yo should give it a go if you realy want to get a medium sized potato peel it and grate it place t on the swolen area and wrap tightly with cling wrap realy it does work youd be surprised! good luck.
when you went to the doctor the last time, did the x-ray it? You might have pulled a muscle in your angle or torn a ligament, right now, I would say the best advice is to go to an orthopedist, and have them look at , you could have pulled a muscle, or torn a ligament, and if you did that, then your going to need to keep off of it for awhile until it heels, which means no net ball.

as for your coach, he's right, you should stop playing until it does feel better, other wise you may damage it more.
I agree with your coach. You really should be resting you ankle until it gets better.. sometimes swelling just goes away but if it continues after a long rest you should have it looked at again. But the swelling is not going to go away while you are jumping on it. I guess the extra fluid around the ankle has become a way your body protects the bruised ankle.
A second opinion by a doctor or a referral to an orthopaedic surgeon so they can take a really good look at the ankle through x-rays. If you have an x-ray handy take it along as you will not have to go have a repeat one then.
Ask yourself this question..is netball as important as your ankle getting healed? Prolonging the injury is not a good way to live. Get it healed then go back to doing what you love. Exercises such as swimming are great for the rehabilitation of ankles :)
Keep weight off ankle-period. Get another Doctor! The fastest way is by going to a hospital emergency room. Normally this will result in a referral to the appropriate medical specialist if injury is severe.
Go to a doctor.it doesn't sound right to me.
The last time I had a "moderate" sprained ankle, it took a full year for it to return to normal; torn muscle fiber needs time to heal! Make sure you're eating plenty of protein..
you are a freaking idiot
