i am self-employed with no employees with a pre-existing condition in need of health care? Any suggestions?

Question:
My company is based in California and my COBRA is running out in 2 months. I need insurance but have pre-existing condition. Money is not the issue, just the screwed up US system. If you have any suggestions how to get health insurance it would be highly appreciated.

Answers:
Try getting a quote online. Some companies will cover pre-existing conditions. I am paying less than 1/2 of what I was before after going online & submitting a quote request & I have a lower co-pay & better coverages.

Get health insurance quotes at:

It really depends on what your pre-existing condition is.

Let's just for example say it is high blood pressure (HBP). Most
insurance companies with cover you but they will do one of three things concerning the HBP.

First they may cover you even with the HBP but charge you extra since you have this condition and they expect your medical care will have more claims because of it.

Secondly, they may cover you but put a rider on the HBP. That means they will cover you except for anything that occurs due to HBP. This rider could be permanent or for a period of time, say 2 years.

Third, they could postpone your application until a current condition has passed a milestone that they have set. For example, most companies will postpone an application if someone has had cancer but has not yet reached 5 years of being cancer free.

Lastly, they can deny you coverage. They are not willing to cover you at this time. If this happens you might want to check with you state dept. of insurance and see if they have a "high risk pool"
that provides coverage for those you have been declined coverage from a private company.
If you enroll w/ a new insurance carrier before your Cobra runs out you should not have trouble getting coverage.

To be sure, check the policy's pre-existing condition clause.
Try the MegaLife insurance company. They specialize in covering the self employed.
