does anyone else get optical migraines?
Question:
Answers:
My trigger was dehydration. When I feel one coming on I drink a bottle of water and sit in a cool dark room. Usually I can prevent it from coming on. Another trigger for me was bright light. Those new headlights on cars were a problem for me for a while so I was driving with sunglasses at night. Now I guess I adjusted because I am not having that issue anymore. My son started getting them-- his trigger was caffeine withdrawal. He had to watch how much caffeine he was taking in.

For starters migraine is properly designated as "Migraine Syndrome". In other words there are multiple symtoms.. optical being only one of them. If you apply pressure to the base of the skull on the side where the symtoms seem to dominate, you will find a very tender area. Should you press sufficiently hard, you may even elicit the recurrance of the pain of the orbit. You don't indicate how it effects the optic nerve.
You will also find there is tenderness to pain where the nerve exits the skull thru an opening, to be found in the eyebrow. A notch can be felt on the underside of the brow. Another is to be found just lateral to the nose. Both are commonly sore to pressure. But, will be found on the predominant side where you experience the headache.
Migraine has an effect on most or all of the nerves of the autonomic nervous system.. Is why bright lights hurt your eyes. as well as the other symptoms that go along with the syndrome.
