What happen when you want to have a vaccine in Australia?

Question:
Do you go first buy the vaccine at the pharmacist, and then go to the doctor? And how much does it cost for the hepatitit B vaccine (just to have an idea)?

Answers:
The cost of Hepatitis vaccines as of Jan 2006 in Australia

Vaqta Hepatitis A vaccine cost about $75 per injection, 2 required.

HB Vax 11 & Energix - Hepatitis B vaccine cost about $25 per injection, 3 required.

Twinrix is a combination of Hep A and B, the cost is about $80 per injection, 3 required.

Not sure if its cheaper with a concession card, but if your in a high risk job, e.g nurse/doctor/carer you may be able to have your work place pay the vaccine. My daughter and I were both lucky to have our work place pay for our vaccinations for Twinrix.

To be vaccinated you need to see your GP, and then they will write a prescription which you take to the chemist to fill and then take to your GP for injection.

At some stage you will have to have a follow up blood test to check if you have the anti-bodies for Hep.
I'm not certain, but I'm quite sure you don't go to the pharmacy and get it. I have always just gone to the doctor and they usually have it there and give it to you straight away. I don't know how much Hep B costs, sorry, I got mine free when I was at school.
