Any medical people know the difference between MCG and MG.?

Question:
I swithched from Sundown brand Melatonin to Natures Bounty (?)
, both say 300 as in milligrams I guess but the Sundown says 300 MCG and the other 300 MG. The new brand seems to be more effective, are they the same amount oand do diff. brands really differ.
The new brand is slightly diff. in ingredients.

Answers:
Interesting as “mg” represents milligrams and “mcg” represents micrograms. The proper way to write the abbreviation for micrograms uses a Greek letter called “mu,” which looks like this µ. The proper way to write the abbreviation uses that letter like this: µg.

mg = 1 / 1,000th of a gram (one one-thousandths of a gram or 0.001)

µg = 1 / 1,000,000th of a gram (one one-millionth of a gram or 0.000001)

It takes 1000 µg to equal 1 mg.

The pill that has its measurement as 300 mg has much more product than the one with 300 µg. The manufacturer of the pill weighing 300 µg could use the measurement of 0.3 mg.

While the 300 mg pill contains more of something, you need to read the label to determine the weight of the active ingredients and the inactive ingredients. Perhaps the pill weighing 300 µg contains only the active ingredient and the 300 mg pill contains the same amount of active ingredient along with a lot of filler ingredients.

Good luck!
