What could it be when you poop out a grape size purplish lump with a long "tail" and mucus?

Question:

My wife wasn't feeling good and had diarhea but also there was this hard mass that was about the size of a grape with a long (about 2-3 inches) "tail" looking thing attached to it. It was purple-brown in color and had some white-yellowish mucus on it. It didn't look like anything she's ever eaten but it was too big to be a worm (that I know of).

Any thoughts?

is she sure it came out her rear end, and was she on her period at the time?
it could be that a lot of the pain and discomfort she was feeling wasn't due to the diarrhea, but that she miscarried.
go to your doc now!

do an autopsy on it if you really want to know what it is.....
