torn minicus disc in the knee and received physical therapy?

You don't mention whether you had surgery. Several doctors have told me a torn minicus requires surgery to heal properly. I tore mine 2 years ago, didn't have surgery and still in pain. One doctor said they will heal some but not heal well. As for having PT alone, I would question the doctor's wisdom of that referral since movement does not help the condition. In fact, some surgeons do not want their patients to have PT even after surgery because sometimes the PT undoes what the surgeon just repaired (actually it's not repaired, the torn flab is removed). Good luck.
Yup, it will take a while to feel normal again, but you will...do what they say, & you will get better.
I had mine done in 2000 I think & I don't even know I had surgery!
The did it arthroscopcally, & there were 3 little holes. They may give you pictures of it, I did!
I'm guessing you mean without having surgery...personally, I don't care for seeing this type of injury in the clinic. I have not found any predictors that tell me who will do well with conservative managment and who will fail. But typically, management of a torn meniscus without surgery usually includes some basic quadriceps and hamstring strengthening. Education on activity modification is also a big point.

I have done repeated searches on medline and CINAL and have yet to be convinced that physical therapy has any better results than a home exercise program and a cortisone injection.

Regarding PT after arthroscopy for a torn meniscus is very simple and most patients do well with a few sessions (any where from 3-8) to increase the range of motion, decrease pain and begin a home exercise program.
