I had a burst ear drum when I was around 12 years old. I don't remember how it happened however I do know your hearing is affected until it heals. Best to visit your local doctor and have both ears checked.
My girlfriends husband had a fly go into his ear one night which laid eggs; hatched into maggots and started to eat his flesh causing him a lot of pain. True story! He was horrified to find this out and the doctor had to syringe them out and he took antibiotics.

1. Don't put water in your ear yourself. It does more harm than good (salt may be used on the ear, but not by putting salt _in_ the ear, I think).

I doubt you rupture an ear drum. Bleeding would have occurred and ear drums can stand a lot. Only a doctor with an otoscope can say for sure.
If u have a busted ear drum it will have watery stuff coming out of it as i have experienced this so u will know if this happens.
A friend of mine has busted an eardrum on 2 occassions. When it pops, it sounds like a helium tank filling a balloon for a few seconds, then you are completely deaf.

Well, I have heard that it does hurt like hell when you bust your ear drum, and that you can`t hear well on that ear. I have a friend who went in too deep when cleaning her ear and has a small hole in the ear drum now. She says it hurt in the beginning and now she can`t hear properly on that side. But to make sure I would suggest you go see a doctor. Maybe it`s some sort of infection and you shouldn`t let it get worse.
