You better ask a doctor, but my opinion is, yes you can and I only say that because my bf is the same way and he has taken amoxicillian, and he is highly allergic to pen. but he said that he was allergic when he was younger and his tolerance may have changed as he got older, Hummm. NO! I'm allergic to penicillin, too, and anything in the "cillin" group of medication you should avoid. I nearly died from both penicillin and amoxicillin. Call a Walgreens pharmacist for verification of that.
amoxicillin is what is called a second generation of penicillin. If one has an allergy to penicillin, it is more than likely the allergy will extend to amoxicillin, as well. As general precaution, never take an antibiotic prescribed for someone else. Check with your physician before beginning antibiotics. They don't cure everything -- viral infections, for one. And the allergy can present anything from a set of hives, to shutting down one's trachea, thereby causing death. Had a student once with a severe allergy to peanut products.
