I had a cervical fusion over 1 yr ago & still in constant pain. What could it be? Can someone help me?

Question:
Need direction what the kind of medical help I need for my pain

Answers:
First, when's the last time you were seen by your physician (hopefully an orthopedic or spinal specialist)? It's possible that your fusion didn't take so you should have x-rays done to ensure 1.) that fusion occurred and 2.) that the hardware is still in the proper place. Remember that you now have hardware in your neck so you should not undergo an MRI on your cervical spine but a CT scan instead for a more detailed view than the x-rays alone can give. That would be your best place to start.

Another common problem is that there's not a lot of room in your neck. The doctor I use to work for use to explain it like this... let me push on your eye and you tell me when it starts to hurt. So if you have any other herniated discs, the bulge may be pressing just enough on the spinal cord to be irritating you. Also, keep in mind that once you undergo a fusion, it's not unusual for the level above or below to go. This can happen relatively soon, much later or not at all.
Would you consider some kind of alternative health treatment? Obviously the surrounding tissue has not recovered from the surgery and I'm sure you don't want more exploratory surgery to find out whats going on.There's two kinds of gentle( very light touch) massage therapy that could help with the pain. One is called Craniosacral and the other is Reiki. They can have profound healing effects ( better than pain relievers). Also acupuncture can ease if not eliminate the pain. All threee of these are excellent remedies in hard to treat cases.Good luck.
