if you're worried about it, a 3 1/2 week old fetus is not the size of a golfball. a miscarriage sort of looks like brown discharge, no real shape but definite clottage.
you, my dear, should go to a doctor!

If you were only a few weeks pregnant, you would not pass any tissue that would be recognizable as an embryo. Many women do in fact conceive and then miscarry while thinking it is their period. However, that is not what you describe. Is it possible that you were farther along than what you thought?
What you described does not sound like a miscarriage but it sounds disturbing. I think you should go to a doctor. This is concerning.
Many women have early miscarriages and never even know it because they think they're simply having a period. Often times they didn't even realize they were pregnant. So, their period may seem a bit heavier but they don't even realize they've miscarried. And early miscarriage is not much more than heavier bleeding and a brown discharge, like the other person mentioned. A 3 week old fetus would not be anywhere near the size of a golfball. I'm currently 10 week and the baby is barely an inch long. So, at three weeks there isn't much more than tissue.
Please describe this to a doctor and find out what is going on.
it is hard to say depending on your menstration interval. assuming it is 28 days from the first day of cycle to the next first day of the cycle, then if you have sex one week before your menses, then you should not get pregnant. It is always true that ovulation occurs two week prior to the menses, so if you have sex one week before the menses, then you could not get pregnant. If you accutally passed a golf size tissue, and if you were pregnant, you should have been pregnant for at least 4 to 6 weeks. Your description of the tissue is very much like a fetal tissue, and I think you were pregnant, usually for spontaneous abortion, there is nothing you could have done, and usually the fetal genetic chromosome was not perfect. If this is a recurrent, then you should have a doc to check you.
It does sound like a mis..I had one and was only a few weeks pregnant. I bleed for several hours, luckily without pain, but passed a large clot. The doc said we'd never really know for sure, but he was 99% sure that's what it was. I just laid in bed the whole day afterwards and was fine after that.
