Why do the tops of my feet hurt in the morning?


Question:
I am a 25 year old female, average height and weight. The last few weeks when I wake up and take my first steps the tops of my feet hurt BAD!! After a few minutes they get better (until today when I had sharp pain in one all day). No new shoes, I'm not an athlete.

Anyone responding with "Ask your doctor" will be reported as abuse, because that is NOT answering the question!

I don't have an answer, but have the same problem. I am thinking that my arches are falling/have fallen - an in "flat feet" - and that the major muscle that runs across the top of my foot, from one side to the other, is stretching and tearing because of the falling arches. At least that's my theory. I know, it hurts like blazes for a little while, then seems to dissipate with time. I can't walk as far as I could now cos it suddenly starts to hurt a lot. I got arch supports and put them in my shoes, and that seems to have helped somewhat, so I'm inclined to think that I'm on the right track....

that happened to me for a while, i don't know what kind of funny positions i went into during the night.. but if your legs are all wack you may have had the same problem, bad blood flow, they wouldn't fall asleep or swell they would just hurt. It went away though, still a mystery try some new sleeping positions. Elevate your legs/feet or hang them off the bed...
Check if you have changed any habits the last few weeks. Anything different at work, like new tile flooring, different schedule.

People say see a DR because they do not want to be liable as a medical or legal expert giving advice.
Do you wear heels..Having pressure at the tops of you`re feet is where you are distributing the most pressure...watch the way you walk..a nice footbath in Epson Salt..
followed by heated warm towels works wonders :)
ask your doctor.....JUST KIDDING!!! answering with "ask your doctor" without giving some kind of opinion or elaborating is kinda rude.

I have an unorthodox non-medical answer.....if you go by the pressure points, it could mean problems with your heart, lungs (I think). Check out a massage book that specializes in pressure points.

Maybe your putting tension in that area, like flexing, or pointing your feet while you sleep. or maybe it's a lack of potassium which causes cramping or that pulling feeling on the bottom of feet around the arch area, eat more bananas.
Sounds like you have Plantar Fascititis (also refered to as bone spurs). I used to get the same thing, once my feet hit the floor to get out of bed. I let this go on for a several weeks, until I noticed that I was walking on my toes to avoid any pressure I was putting on my heels. I made an appt to see my regular dr who referred me to a foot doctor. The foot dr did x rays of my feet, prescribed meds to alleviate the pain, and gave me cortisone shot in the heel. If you dont want to go the dr, then get a heating pad, and gels for your shoes. Use the heating pad for 20 minutes a day, at night. You should notice a difference in the pressure. Also, avoid wearing heals. Try shoes that have a good support to them. If you get it treated right away, you wont have to have surgery later.
