Answers:
I'm guessing if you're staying up till 3 or 4 in the morning you're sleeping in till noon. I remember thinking that an 11AM class was WAY too early! I stayed up till 4AM every night and I survived. No worries!

Don't worry about it... you're young and in college... After you graduate and start working normal working hours (8 - 5) Your sleeping patterns will change.

Other Answers:
You're experiencing sleep deprivation which can make you feel really tired, make your immune system susceptible to infection, lack of focus in class, etc.
To start, not sleeping will make you behave as if you were drunk. The alcohol level in your blood increased due to lack of oxygen and hormonal activity.

Second, your body is weaker, your metabolism slows down and you tend to use muscle tissue as energy instead of fat and sugars.

Your skin becomes stresses and will look tired and dry.

Your mental status is affected due to hormonal unbalance. You can develop a state of depression or stress.

Your brain is tired, therefore your ability to retain information or capture information is affected.

Overall slack of sleep can affect your mind, body and spirit
if you are getting around 5 or so hours of continuous, peaceful, rejuvenating sleep then you will be fine. I'm assuming you are somewhere b/w 19 to 23 yrs. old.

Signs of sleep deprivation.
1. excessive sleepiness.
2. loss of concentration and fine muscle coordination. dangerous to drive or operate machinery!
3. effects on memory and learning.
4. unstable mood. aggressiveness. depression. tiredness.
5. susceptible to infections.
6. black circles around eyes, bag under eyes, red eyes. headaches.

if you have to stay up late hopefully it is for studies ;-) and then you get up around 7 or 8 am. , that's ok.

you could take a nap for an hour or two later in the day.

don't eat atleast 3 hours before you plan to sleep. get some light exercise if you have trouble falling asleep (insomnia). but if you are staying up by choice hopefully it's for something constructive.
its called being young and being able to do it..LOL wait till your older and want to go to bed at 7pm..LOL
