I used to have no problem with any dairy products. But now, I can't have ice cream or milk with out getting sick. I find non-fat milk is OK and soymilk. I just suffer every once in awhile in exchange for some good ice cream.
Yes you can become lactose intolerant. Certain things such as cheese and sour cream may not be as irritating as straight milk. You may want to try soy milk or lactose free milk by land-o-lakes. Lactaid milk isn't that great. It tastes a little like soured milk mixed with sugar. There are also pills you can buy at a drug store or walmart that help your digestion when you're lactose intollorant. I haven't had a chance to try those yet, but i hear they work.
Yes; you can become lactose intolerant, even though you were not before. It happens since the enzyme that digest lactose is not been produce no more. Lactose intolerant signs are: abdominal pain, diarrhea, or bloated.
If you want to keep eating dairy try Lactaid Pills. Depending on the severity of your condition they should work well for you. I use them on a regular basis and I don't get the awful intestinal cramps that I get if I don't use them. Another symptom of lactose intolerance is sinus problems and mild rashes.
