Theoretically, could doctors perform surgery in the nude?
Question:
If a surgical team still wore gloves and mask, would it still be sanitary for them to wear nothing else? A rather bizarre idea, I agree, but one of those thoughts that people ponder in their off time.
I apologize if this offends anyone (this is not my intent), but just an interesting question.

Interesting question, what it really depends on is the type of surgery: General? Sure! Ortho? Why not?! After that it gets tricky because your heart and brain are hypersensitive to foreign masses (like loose body hair that floats into the incision) and your immunse system could end up killing too much tissue. As far as distraction, well, we see a lot of things way more disgusting then nude doctors and we do ok.
No, it would not constitute a sterile field.
Too much distraction. I agree everything should be one color in order to keep the focus on the patient.
I'm not offended. I'm just not sure I like where this is going.
It would be very easy for a twisted medical professional (and they DO exist) to take advantage of a patient this way as the patient is naked as well!
As someone who was sexually assaulted by a medical professional during a gyn. exam when I was 22, I can tell you, this image is NOT pleasing.
no. it is so not hygenic. the gown that surgeons wear is sterilised. we need to scrub our hands and arms first, and then using some technique to wear the gown plus gloves and mask so that our skin will not touch the part of the gown that will be in contact with the patients.
even with the thick gown, we still have to avoid touching the armpit (when we fold our arms to the body), because this is where we sweat most. sweat can help spread any skin germ to the patient. hence, if the nude doctor claims to already scrub his whole body, he can still sweat & spoil the sterile procedure.
plus, the operation room is freezing cold to protect the various anaesthetic machines in there.
