Earring infection & pus HELP?
Question:
i always mess around and never leave the gold ones in long enough so there are always problems.
the upper hole on my right ear was hurting and swelling, so i took out the earring (it has plastic pole, so it's not those cheap metal). there's a bump in it, so i knew there's pus in there. i squeezed most the pus out (there was a lot), but it's still swollen.
It hurts when i try to put the post back in, but if i leave it out, the hole will close.
what should i do? i can't change the past so please don't reply "you should have."
thanks guys.
Answers:
simply: hydrogen peroxide, if you MUST keep the earring in (which i don't recommend) clean the earring with rubbing alcohol before putting it back in. don't mess with your ear lobe (that'll just irritate it and make it hurt worse than it already does. be sure to clean any earrings you might have worn while it was infected. once it's cleared up, be sure to clean your earrings regurlarly with rubbing alcohol to prevent infection, especially if you seem prone to infection in the earring hole.
I'd take some pain reliever and put it back in after cleaning the earlobe. Use a antibiotic like neosporin, and continue to clean it at least on a twice daily basis.
Clean it out with rubbing alcahol. Then about an hour after cleaning it with rubbing alcahol have sombody put the earring back in, Yes it will hurt. Make shure dip the earring in rubbing alcahol brfore you put it back in your ear. after you do this clean both ears 3 times a day with rubbing alcahol.
Get some hydrogen peroxide, and pour it into the hole with the earring in. Try to work the post in with the peroxide on it, as well, to get peroxide down into the wound. keep the earring in, and keep using the peroxide several times every day till it gets better. if it doesnt seem better in a few days, and it is worse, go to the doctor. Various conditions will impede healing of the wound; it could be an abscess, which is more serious, OR if you are diabetic and do not heal well, that could also make the situation worse.
put peroxide on a cotton ball and clean area of hole that is infected,do this about 4 times a day, also a hot wash cloth applied numerous times a day will help infection drain. to keep hole open tread a needle and put through hole ,make sure that the needle is sterile, make a loop with tread and pull through hole several times a day this will keep the hole from closing. If infection doesn't go down in about 3 days see your doc.
You should see the doctor if it doesn't heal soon. For now try killing the germs with rubbing alcohol on a q-tip. It will hurt but it will help dry some of the pus up. Keep squeezing the pus out.
I read in the newspaper the other day that earring holes will never heal completely, coz it's a hole in your skin! If you leave the post out it might be really hard and painful to get back in, but I think you could do it.
Be patient and leave the gold or surgical steel posts in after the infection is gone so it will heal properly. Remember if you don't take care of it the infection could spread, leading to bad consequences!
I left my earrings out for like 5 years and with a little work I was able to get some posts back in and stretch the holes out.
keep squeezing the pus out of it and use the alc or peroxide that has been mentioned in the other post here. one thing that you might try before putting the post in is to deaden the pain with a couple of ice cubes on each side of the ear before inserting the post
Put table salt in warm water use this to clean ear. Also you can fill a cup and soak your ear in it. The salt helps draw the puss out and keep it clean.
