Other Answers:
The fact that you are even asking shows that you will bring up fine children. All it takes is caring.
If you care, you will read and listen and find out and do everything that is necessary to turn out decent human beings.

All I would advise is to TELL them that you love them. It seems like most kids today are very unsure of their parent's love, and that makes for a weak foundation.
Discipline the child-but remember each child is different so what works to discipline one child will not necessarily work when discipling another child. There are absolute rights and wrongs and they have to realize this. I'm not saying that you should spank the child or that you shouldn't spank the child-only you can decide that.

Don't talk the talk if you're not going to walk the walk. In other words, if stealing is wrong, don't steal. If you want them to choose healthy snacks like fruit instead of candy bars, let them see you choosing fruit over the candy bar. You're the parent and in spite of whether or not you work, they DO learn their values and morals by watching you more than anyone else.
Do's-The ten commands cover it all.
Don'ts-Don't forget them.
